The applications can be used by anyone, whether they are recreational boat lovers, professional skippers, amateur skippers on chartered boats or boat owners. The application is void of all commercial and unnecessary content; it can be downloaded for free at the App Store or the Android Market. The aim of the application is to provide urgent assistance in cases of emergency when help is needed in the fastest and simplest manner, without unnecessary calls and explanations, in just two taps.
After GPS reads the most accurate position, the user gets a sign to ask for help TAP. By opening a window with predefined options the user can choose which best describes his current state of emergency. TAP
The generated message automatically sends all the data to the ES call center where the data is matched to the previously registered user. Then the ES staff has the complete information and knows what to do so immediately upon receiving confirmation they take action from the nearest base to the position of the vessel in distress.
Once the application is downloaded one begins the installation by choosing a language: CRO, EN, GER, IT, SLO, after which a simple registration follows (it is completed at home while you are preparing for your trip or the day before you sail out). The registration is obligatory, in order to avoid misuse and so that the users can familiarize themselves with their rights and conditions of receiving assistance at sea which is of a commercial kind. Once the registration of the application is complete it is ready for use at any moment, whenever the user needs it.
On the main interface, alongside the option of sending a generated message, the user has the option of calling the ES skipper on duty in case he or she need advice in regard to the nautical region, weather forecast, nautical warnings or just wants to ask for assistance by word of mouth.
The application's options chart has the Distress option marked in red. In such case ES sends its craft to the location and the ES operator calls the Search And Rescue unit on behalf of the skipper of the vessel giving them the relevant information. Informing the SAR unit is obligatory because the rescue of human lifes is strictly state isssue. In case of a Distress situation time is of the essence and a rescue in due time can prevent any potential losses.
